A Rich History

Glory Hill Lodge (previously known as Glory Hill Manor), was designed by well-known and famous Sir Herbert Baker, a prominent British Architect who played a significant role in designing housing for wealthy mining magnates, known as “Randlords” in South Africa. Sir Herbert Baker was influenced by Cecil John Rhodes also a mining magnate at the time. His work included the design of the Union buildings and Reserve Bank in Pretoria as well as other prominent buildings throughout our Country and across the globe.

Built as a country retreat for mining magnates, Glory Hill Lodge reflects the history of the White River and Lowveld region through its original wooden trusses and vaulted ceilings, showcasing the era's architectural and cultural influences. The history is intertwined with the broader narrative of South African history, particularly that of the Lowveld.

In August 1984 Glory Hill Guest Farm was purchased from Bill and Dot Parkinson by David and Linda Godley who originated from Benoni.

The Godley family are currently still the proud owners of Glory Hill Lodge.

This equates to 41 years of memorable existence and winning the hearts of guests from all over the world.
